Paringa Estate restaurant overlooks the magnificent north facing Paringa vineyard.
The combined Restaurant and Cellar Door have a relaxed atmosphere and warm ambience accentuated by the rustic timber roof and a roaring fireplace in winter.
Paringa’s head chef, Steffen Jensen is originally from Denmark and brings a wealth of experience to Paringa.
From the outset of his career he has worked for some of the finest restaurant establishments in Denmark and France, his employment history an impressive record of one leading restaurant after another.
As a young apprentice chef in Denmark Steffen completed his Master Chef Degree and also the unique ‘Journeyman’ certificate which covers all aspects of the restaurant trade, from butcher to pastry chef to French Haute Cuisine.
Steffen’s journey took him to France to work under well known and respected French chef, Christian Plumail at his restaurant in Nice L’Univers de Christian Plumail, which was awarded and maintained one Michelin star in the two years he spent there.
Steffen followed this by travelling to the UK to where he took up the position of Head Chef at Lundum’s restaurant in Kensington, London.
His eyes twinkle as he talks of his time there... “not many would understand what a privilege it was to work with Kay Lundum, a man who is a gastronomy icon in Scandinavia”.
Lundum’s was awarded three rosettes whilst under Steffen’s leadership.
Keen for a new challenge, Steffen headed to our shores where he has one clear career objective - to pursue his love of Australian wines and to merge this with his passion for the Australian gourmet industry.
Paringa’s menu features French classics such as Assiette de canard (duck three ways) and Soufflé au Roquefort (Blue cheese soufflé) and also his own signature dish the ‘Trilogy of Quail’...
Of his food Steffen says quite simply: “There is nothing pretentious in my cooking, just a humble and desperate search for perfection”.
